Proffitt & Associates Architects has been providing architectural services to a wide variety of public and private clients since the firm was founded in Frederick in 1973 by Mr. Landon Proffitt (retired), father of current President Michael L. How long have you been in business?
Proffitt and Associates Architects has been providing architectural services for approximately 37 years.
History
1973 - The firm was established as a sole proprietorship as Landon M. Proffitt Architect.
1977 - The firm expanded to five in September, as Michael Proffitt and others joined the firm.
1981 - The firm name was changed to Landon M. Proffitt Architects, as Michael Proffitt became registered, and a partnership was established.
1991 - The firm became a professional corporation -Proffitt & Proffitt Architects. At this time, Michael Proffitt gained a larger share of the partnership and was named President of the Corporation.
1995 - Landon M. Proffitt retired and the firm changed its name to Proffitt & Pryor Architects as Maria Pryor, with the firm since 1987, became a partner.
2004 - Upon Maria's departure in early 2004, the firm became its present Proffitt & Associates Architects. In the past five years, the firm has grown to the extent that our annual gross fee base is over $1 million.
What is your primary product or service?
The design of projects requires a concentrated effort by all involved personnel in producing quality documents (Program of Requirements, Plans, and Specifications) that:
-Completely satisfy the needs of the client
-Are complete, accurate and concise
-Provide sufficient detail and description
-Are consistent with established codes, design criteria and client standards
-Provide a completed product that is constructible, operable and maintainable.
To accomplish these goals, commitment, attitude, professionalism and performance is necessary from all.
It is our mission to incorporate sustainable technologies into every project that we design. Each action taken to increase energy efficiency, decrease water consumption, or otherwise conserve our Earths precious resources is another step in the right direction. On-staff a LEED Accredited Professional is able to analyze each project and determine which measures are most appropriate to its unique set of parameters.

Our offices have been located in historic downtown Frederick, Maryland since the firm was founded. Since our expansion in 1995 we have been located at the corner of Church and Market Streets. Our location in Frederick, Maryland puts us within one hour of Baltimore, Annapolis, Northern Virginia, and Washington, DC., and within one half hour of Montgomery County, Washington County, and Howard County, Maryland. Recently, we have expanded our reach to Maryland's growing Eastern Shore and Western Maryland.
